Indiana University Bloomington School of Education

Application Process

Jacobs Award application for the 2013-2014 school year is open until July 15, 2013.

The Jacobs Educator Program is sponsored by the Barbara B. Jacobs Chair in Education and Technology. Each year, the Jacobs Educator Award selection committee will select up to five teachers to receive the award. To be eligible for the award, an applicant must be teaching in a K-12 classroom at the time they apply, and have a minimum of five years of teaching experience.

To apply to become a Jacobs Educator, you will need to submit the following materials through our online application form:

  1. A current resume documenting your teaching positions and experience.
  2. A brief (250 words maximum) essay describing your beliefs regarding the best ways to use technology to support inquiry-based teaching and learning.
  3. A two-minute video that provides an overview of a technology-enhanced inquiry-based activity you have implemented in your classroom in the past year. Be creative, professional, and thorough with your video as this is a key component of your application. Follow these guidelines when crafting and uploading your two-minute video. View exemplary application videos to get an idea of what we are looking for.

In addition to the application, you will need to provide:

  • One letter of support from your building or district administrator (e.g., building principal, district superintendent)

Please have your letters of recommendation sent to:

Dr. Thomas Brush
Barbara B. Jacobs Chair in Education and Technology

Applications will not be considered complete until all letters of recommendations are received by the Jacobs Educator Program. Selection of award recipients will be made based on an evaluation of the quality of application materials submitted.

Indiana University is committed to achieving excellence through cultural diversity. Thus, we actively encourage women, persons of color, individuals with disabilities, and members of other under-represented groups to submit applications to the Jacobs Educator Award Program.
