(1st year Poetry) Bethany Carlson grew up in western Michigan, where she gained an affinity for squeaky sand, blueberry picking, and freshwater waves. At Indiana Wesleyan University, she fell in love with the way words interact with each other. Bethany’s poetry is a response to her encounters with tangles of words and the connections they inspire. Past publications include Stirring, Ruminate, Wicked Alice, and The Clemson Poetry Review. Bethany’s work was recently nominated for Best New Poets 2009. She is a Lilly Graduate Fellow and will be a Kundiman Fellow in 2010. She is also the recipient of the Yusef Komunyakaa Fellowship at Indiana University. |
