Paula Carter is a professional writer specializing in marketing, nonprofit communications and the narrative essay. She works with clients to craft fundraising and marketing materials, research projects, articles and presentations. Her essays have appeared in or are forthcoming from The Southern Review, The Rumpus and The Kenyon Review Online.
Before becoming a freelance writer, Paula was the Executive Director of CityMusic—a nonprofit arts organization presenting world and chamber music concerts. Prior to CityMusic, she worked in communications for the Harvard College Library at Harvard University where she wrote articles, press releases, web copy and brochures in addition to helping design and maintain the Library’s websites.
Paula earned her B.A. in English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her M.F.A. in creative writing at Indiana University Bloomington. She spent four years teaching writing to students at Indiana University and the University of Kentucky. She is based in Chicago.
