HUB: A Mobile Gallery

Transcript

This all started when Jonathon and Derrick and I were trying to think  of alternative spaces to do show's in.  They essentially started from the idea of just doing a regular sort of basic gallery  and kind of felt like that wasn't enough.  So we got together and just started coming up with ideas of where to do it  and we decided that, why not just make our own place?  [ Music ]  [background music] The HUB is just a term for like a docking station.  We had a lot of terminology that we were using that we all kind of retracted to the w  [background music] Just a progression of ideas we sort of landed on, not a new idea,  people have been using moving trucks for a long time to do mobile art galleries  but they've always just been a truck.  And so we created an actual totally mobile architecture versus just a place to put ar  It's a venue.  It's a moving venue.  [background music] When I was talking about the whole concept of the HUB  and this mobile situation I personally as an artist was intrigued by it because it se  like something that I'm focusing on at the time.  If I were to make a living space I'd want it to be able to break down and transport a  to kind of take what I think are the bare essentials to a living space  or to a home and bring it anywhere to go.  [background music] My work will change quite drastically in its form  within the new context of the truck  It essentially will be a very large what I call architectural based crate  that goes in the back of the truck.  It will have some interactive components to it involving the pieces in the show.  A gallery can be an intimidating experience for people  who aren't used to that on a regular basis.  For me this is just another room but if you're not used to coming in here and dealing  and artists it can be intimidating to the point where you might not walk in.  But the HUB project in itself will bring the artist  to the people and the people to the artist.  We're going to get a lot of just general public that aren't regularly attending our s  and our events and hopefully we can get them a little bit more with art  and show them something a little bit different and excite them enough that they come  around to visit us in the future.  [ Music ]
