In Memoriam, Peter Duong
September 11, 2009
The death of 19 year-old sophomore Peter Duong on September 9 has been met with an outpouring of sadness and fond remembrances from friends, classmates, and teachers. Peter was a Hudson and Holland Scholar from Terre Haute, Indiana, pursuing majors in biochemistry and French. He played guitar and piano, and enjoyed dancing.
"We have all been deeply saddened by the death of Peter Duong, a wonderful young man with great promise. The entire campus sends heartfelt condolences to Peter's family and friends," said Karen Hanson, Indiana University Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President.
"Words cannot express the profound sadness and heartbreak we feel. Peter was an amazing young man with a zest for life, knowledge, and desire to leave this world a better place than he found it. We shall never forget him and will ensure he always has a place in this program and in our hearts," said Virginia LeBlanc, interim director of the Hudson and Holland Scholars Program.

The IU Bloomington community is invited to participate in a memorial service for Peter Duong on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 8:00 p.m. in the McNutt North Dining Room.

Campus-affiliated clergy will help with the service, which will include photographs of Peter provided by his friends, followed by a candlelight walk and a time for informal conversation and remembrances with light refreshments.
All are welcome. If you did not know Peter, you will have the chance to learn about him and see how he touched everyone around him. Please help us celebrate the life of this wonderful student, friend, and member of our community.
