Faculty Excellence

Catherine Pilachowski
Kirkwood Chair of Astronomy

Catherine Pilachowski

Catherine Pilachowski, the Daniel Kirkwood Chair in Astronomy, enjoys working closely with her students, who range from non-science majors to graduate students.

"Astronomy is a small department, and we encourage our majors to participate fully in the department," she says. "Our majors do more than take classes — we try to get them involved in research with faculty and many observe with faculty on our telescopes in Arizona. Students do research on stars, galaxies, and even on new space missions. It's very satisfying to help them grow from students to colleagues."
